sans rival (french) - without rival
Sans Rival, a Dumaguete-based restaurant famous for its cakes and pastries became my top destination when I chanced upon visiting the city.
I prepared myself for the that day's food adventure. I skipped meals so to have enough 'space'.
My friends who are from Dumaguete were amused when I told them that I was planning to wear a long dress for my Sans Rival date. Of course I wanted to dress up for it. It is not everyday when I'd get to eat there.
There's the Sans Rival Bistro and the original Sans Rival cafe. I preferred the small cafe than the bistro because the former gave that delicious, comforting, and homey feel.
I wanted to eat without any hurry.
I pushed the cafe doors open with a smile on my lips. I'm finally here! Though I had a taste of their bestsellers before, nothing beats eating something right where they're from. It feels more authentic. Ha-ha
I had their pasta, served with toasted bread. For dessert, I had a slice of their famous sans rival, a couple of silvanas and a lava cake. All that fasting was more than equally rewarded.
Their lava cake became a surprise for me, I thought it was the usual. I've tasted other lava cakes but this one, this was superb. The fine texture, warmth, and sweetness embraced my tongue. It was bliss.
Without a rival, this place is a must-visit. Truly Dumaguete's pride.
